WINE SYSTEM – Trust your Senses launches the second edition of its newcomer. Registration deadline is June 10th, 2022. PAR® Jury tasting July 01st – 04th, 2022

Frasdorf, April 2022 – Wines from Burgundy grape varieties regardless of production type – whether stylistically modern or with traditional craftsmanship, whether from the Old World or the New one – are the key objective of PiGUNDY WINE AWARD INTERNATIONAL, that completed its test run successfully in July 2021, and is about to start for the second round. Likewise, for all WINE SYSTEM Awards, the jury will run the tasting according to PAR® system to explore the enormous fascination of Pinot in all its variations*). This method allows specially trained PAR® Certified Master to assess each wine objectively and beyond all trends and taste rules. The auditors create a sensory data sheet for each submitted wine illustrating the rating transparency and directly applicable to quality management.

From France Into The Whole World: Colourful Pinot

Well-known grape types are Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder), Pinot Blanc (Weißburgunder) or Pinot Gris (Grauburgunder), Schwarzriesling, called Pinot Meunier in France, or Müllerrebe and Chardonnay Also, lesser-known varieties like Frühburgunder, Sankt Laurent, Samtrot, Aligoté and Melon de Bourgogne alias Muscadet belong to the Burgundy grape family. Wines made of 100 per cent of these grapes are invited to the second edition of the PiGUNDY WINE AWARD INTERNATIONAL in July 2022. The competition is open to all types of wine in all quality categories and of different origins.

Origin, Craftmanship, Signature – Defining Triad

Head of Tasting Martin Darting says: „Along with our primary mission to assess the quality of wines transparently to the producers, we, as a jury, turn our exceptional attention to the origin and its impact on the wine in combination with the style of maturation. One example of the apparent difference could be the comparison between Venetian Pinot Grigio and Baden Grauburgunder – two sensorily completely different wines made of the same grape variety.“

The sensory PAR® method and ranking structure provide the possibility of a differentiated and objective illustration of the diversity of this international contest. Each submitted wine receives transparent documentation of its sensory characteristics assessed regarding the origin, climate and style, independent of the fact whether this is a stylistically modern fruity white wine, classically made terroir product or an original orange wine. The individually assessed wines are classified in the corresponding categories with similar products to illustrate the international comparison. In addition, there is a possibility to filter the results according to the categories like, for instance, „terroir wine“, „natural wine“, or „extract-emphasised wine“ to look at the ranking in these terms.

The wines are anonymised and numbered before sent, unpacked and presented in the determined order to the jury consisting of PAR® Certified Masters.
