ORGANIC WINE AWARD INTERNATIONAL: Eindrücke der Frühjahrsverkostung 2023 und Ergebnisse der spanischen Winzer

Sensorische Standards verlieren an Bedeutung – Beobachtungen zu Klima und Handwerk – Liste der Spitzenwertungen aus Spanien

Frasdorf, Mai 2023 – „Von alten Standards können wir uns verabschieden“ kommentiert ein Mitglied der interdisziplinären PAR^® Master Jury die Frühjahrsverkostung des ORGANIC WINE AWARD INTERNATIONAL – und die Worte beschreiben recht treffend, was das Ranking in Zahlen und sensorischen Daten zum Ausdruck bringt. So finden sich unter den 371 eingereichten Bioweinen aus 15 Ländern Paradebeispiele des Handwerks. Sie zeigen, wie auch unter veränderten Bedingungen herausragende Weine entstehen, wenn önologische Standards ad acta gelegt werden. Zu dieser Riege zählt etwa der Gesamtsieger mit 99 Punkten: der 2021er Vino d´Oro N.1 von La Villa Mergo in den italienischen Marken. Innovation und Flexibilität ausschlaggebend

Due to the many disciplines represented - from oenology and viticulture to viticulture and the trade - in the course of an award the PAR^® jury gains profound insights into what drives the industry. The top issue is and remains how to deal with changing climatic conditions. Depending on the climate zone, they result in changed acidity levels, rising alcohol contents and altered microbiology, to name but a few. Those who stick to classic aroma profiles and traditional methods in the vineyard and cellars have to dig deeper and deeper into their bag of tricks - with the corresponding sensory effects. The ranking also impressively shows what can be achieved through innovation. One example is the 2021 ORANGE elemental green from Wachter winery in Austria. It shows that Grüner Veltliner can also do differently, thanks to selection during harvest, maceration time and minimalism in the cellar. This earned it 96 points and Grand Gold.

Genau darin liegt die Stärke einer PAR^® evaluation: It is a compass for this potential, which is waiting to be used - by the producers themselves or perhaps even with the help of a consultant. The changed temperatures and rainfall should not be underestimated in their effects on vines and grapes. Seeking advice can provide the decisive impetus for a new, successful direction.

Die Spitzenwertungen pro Kategorie aus Spanien

Weißwein:

• 2021 OSOTI BLANCO BARRICA von Viñedos Ruiz Jiménez, La Rioja, mit 98 Punkten und Grand Gold

Rotwein:

• 2022 GARNACHA BY BODEGA LA ENCINA von der Bodega La Encina in Alicante, Valencia, mit 97 Punkten und Grand Gold

• 2021 LADERAS von den Bodegas Arzuaga Navarro aus der Ribera del Duero in Castilla-León mit 96 Punkten und Grand Gold

Insgesamt wurden 40 Bioweine aus spanischen Anbaugebieten eingereicht. Davon erzielten 3 Grand Gold, 16 Gold, 19 Silver und 2 Bronce.
